Java-Based "Portlet Contest" Launched By JBoss

Portlets Need to Be Compliant With JSR-168 Portlet Specification

To help along the JSR-168 specification enabling interoperability between Portlets and Portals, JBoss is hosting at its JBoss Labs site a portlet contest for developers to share JSR-168 compliant portlets with the community, gain some recognition, and win prizes.

JBoss Labs is built on an open source infrastructure developed by the JBoss Labs team.

JBoss's Roy Russo - organiser of the contest - says there will be one winner announced for each of the following categories (total of 3 winners):

  • Enterprise Portlets: Portlets that support or integrate enterprise applications into the Portal user interface. Ex. Exchange, Notes, SAP, etc...
  • Community Portlets: Portlets that enable community interaction through the Portal. Ex. Wiki, RSS, Forum, etc...
  • Framework Portlets: Portlets implementing common web frameworks. Ex. JSF, AJAX, SpringMVC, etc...

Contest entries will be received starting August 30, 2005 ending on October 25, 2005. Winners, says the company, will be announced on November 1, 2005.

JSR-168 defines a set of APIs for Portal computing addressing the areas of aggregation, personalization, presentation and security. JDJ wishes its readers good luck if they decide to enter.
